Iron Horse Middle School

Incoming 6th grade information

Welcome!

Welcome to Iron Horse Middle School!  With much anticipation and excitement about our new 2018-2019 class of sixth grade students, we would like to make you aware of several important dates and procedures concerning registration that you might want to put on your calendar.

On the evening of Thursday April 12th, Iron Horse Middle School will be hosting a meeting for incoming 6th grade parents. This meeting will take place in the MPR (Multi-Purpose Room) at 7:00 PM. At that time, the Iron Horse staff will present our academic program, followed by a question and answer period. This meeting is for parents only.

In May, our feeder schools’ students will be visiting Iron Horse. This is an event that aids in the process of relieving the anxiety that sometimes comes with this new chapter in a student’s educational career. Our current 6th grade student Ambassadors and staff will discuss the 6th grade program at Iron Horse. Leadership students will be taking groups of 5th graders around campus for a guided tour. Your child’s 5th grade teacher will be providing details about the campus tours, scheduled as follows.

  • Friday, May 4th, @ 8:45 – 10:00 AM: Twin Creeks, and Golden View
  • Thursday, May 10th,@ 8:30 - 9:45 AM: Bollinger, Montevideo, and Walt Disney

If your child attends a school other than one of our traditional feeder schools, he/she is also welcome to attend this event on either visit. Please have your child come to the MPR at Iron Horse. Your child will be included in a group so they can start meeting other students and begin to feel comfortable on campus.

In preparation of the first day of school, Monday August 13, 2018, we invite your child to attend Jaguar Camp 2018 Thursday, August 9th, @ 9:00AM – 12:00PM. This activity is for students only. Registration for camp will begin at 8:45 AM in the Iron Horse MPR. In the meantime, please start to visit our school website at www.ihms.srvusd.net as you and your family begin to learn about IHMS and what it means to be a Jaguar.

Sincerely,

Joe Nguyen
